Masterclass in Teaching Essential Science High School Content

The Faculty of Science, Technology, and Mathematics (FSTEM), in collaboration with the Filipino Science Hub (FilSciHub), is launching a specialized Masterclass series designed to enhance the instructional capacity of Junior and Senior High School teachers, as well as Pre-service Teachers, in delivering engaging and effective science education. Recognizing the critical need for improved scientific literacy in the Philippines, this series of online webinars will focus on equipping educators with innovative pedagogical strategies and a deep understanding of core concepts across biology, chemistry, earth and space sciences, and physics.
Addressing the challenges in teaching complex scientific principles, the Masterclass will emphasize practical, hands-on activities, real-world applications, and the integration of modern educational technologies. Expert facilitators will guide participants through effective methods for teaching challenging topics such as:
Biology. Ecosystem dynamics, cellular processes, and genetic inheritance.
Chemistry. Chemical reactions, atomic structure, and the properties of matter.
Earth and Space Sciences. Geological processes, astronomical phenomena, and climate systems.
Physics. Mechanics, energy transformations, and electromagnetic forces.
This approach will ensure that teachers not only gain theoretical knowledge but also develop practical skills for immediate classroom application. This initiative aims to build a deeper understanding of the foundational principles of science to explain everyday occurrences through scientific reasoning, enhancing the teaching of science to be relevant and engaging for Filipino learners.

In general, this Masterclass will help capacitate in-service teachers with the competencies necessary to teach essential content. Specifically, the masterclass will help in:
Enhanced Science Content Knowledge. Participants will demonstrate an understanding of essential science content.
Effective STEM Concept Delivery. Participants will demonstrate an understanding of teaching (pedagogical) essential science content.
Collaborative Community of Practice. Participants will actively engage in online discussions and collaborative activities, contributing activities and plans in the online classroom.
